USRowing is pleased to announce the 53-person roster of the 2017 Under 19 National Team that will compete at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships, August 2-6 in Trakai, Lithuania.
The five-day competition will feature U.S. crews in 13 events. Events include the men's and women's single sculls, men's and women's double sculls, men's and women's quadruple sculls, men's and women's pair, men's and women's four, men's four with coxswain, and men's and women's eight.
Trakai will see 17 athletes return from the 2016 Under 19 National Team, including Clark Dean, Kate Burns, Jenna Hardman, Kaitlyn Kynast, Rose Carr, Kelsey McGinley, Caroline Sharis, Liam Galloway, Jenna Van De Grift, Sydney Edwards, Harrison Burke, Christian Tabash, Kenneth Coplan, Gordon Holterman andNikita Lilichenko, with 2016 Under 19 spares Evan Krum and Katryna Niva returning as well. Additionally, Claire Campbell raced at the 2014 World Rowing Junior Championships in the double sculls.
The U.S. won six medals at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Strong performances in the women's pair, women's double sculls, women's four, men's four with coxswain, men's quadruple sculls and the men's eight all lead to positions on the medal stands.
The U.S. roster includes athletes from 18 states and two countries - the United States and England. California claims 11 of the 54 athletes making up the U19 roster. Sarasota Crew from Sarasota, Fla. and Oakland Strokes from Oakland, Cali. are both represented by four athletes. Clark Dean of Sarasota Crew will be doubling up in the single and the four with coxswain, giving them a presence in five events.
